I am a 66-year-old single mother, born in Las Vegas in a large family, then raised in Memphis. I am primarily a self-taught artist. Starting serious work 7-12 years ago after work as a florist, psychiatric nurse and a carnival traveler.
I took my first art classes in elementary school. After my first drawing of comedians Cheech and Chong which sparked my first art interest. I completed a several week pastel course in Little Rock, AR at "The Mansion". With much encouragement in the four shows and sales in Little Rock, showing at a bakery, the arc, the gain program and little rock river walk in 1990s.., I studied books and read about mediums, supplies, and techniques. I have worked in watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels, oil pastels, mixed media, pottery and mosaics. While becoming more confident and proficient, I sold numerous commissions; pieces sold to physicians; hundreds of works in shows including the Arkansas state hospital administration building, as I became more interested and improved with encouragement from artists eventually started exhibiting and selling my work In Memphis.
I like to paint realistic nature scenes and rock musicians. Recently, my interests have included metallics. I began using dark and muted colors when I was much younger, which I equate how it felt in my soul to now evolving to many colors, bright and adventurous. I tend to work fast and sometimes simultaneously work on 2 to 5 pieces.
I have exhibited at the Cooper/Young festival in Memphis last September and have recently sold 3 pieces in north woods of Wisconsin.
I will be hanging in show in near future in Germantown at Episcopalian church.
